Q&A: Why Do You Travel Solo?
Q&A Wednesday is when I ask female solo travelers on Instagram for their advice on a specific question related to solo travel. I then share their input in a blog post for others to enjoy!
This week's question was inspired by a Facebook post I saw that said: "Why do you travel solo? It seems like it would just be lonely without someone to share your experiences with."
So the question I asked female solo travelers this week was: Why do you travel solo?
Personally, I never planned to travel alone—I simply couldn't find anyone to go with me. But once I got out into the world on my own, I became addicted to this travel style.
1️⃣ It's about not having to answer anyone. It's the freedom to make every decision based on your whims, and to not have to explain them to anyone or make any compromises.
2️⃣ It's also an incredible way to build your confidence and revel in your freedom as a woman. You'll prove to yourself time and time again on your solo trip just how capable you are of managing yourself and your experience.
3️⃣ It allows you to learn about yourself, and explore what you want and need out of life. It gives you room and opportunities to learn and grow.
These are just a few of the reasons I travel solo. I could go on all day—but now, let's hear from some other female solo travelers about why they travel alone!
FOR THE FREEDOM.
Kat of @kat_wright87 says "You don't have to conform to anyone else's expectations for the trip, or plan anything you don't want to do."
Brenna of @brennapatrick says "I travel alone because it's only going to be myself that truly brings me happiness. I can go on my own time and my own itinerary."
JJ of @jeunefillejj says "So that I have full control of what I see and do, and what pace I visit at!"
Carly of @carlymiller18 says "Freedom to do whatever I want!"
Nanette of @i.am.outofoffice says "My reason is perfectly practical: I want to be able to do whatever I want, wherever I want, and whenever I want. I like the independence of doing my own thing without having to compromise or take others' preferences into account."
Amanda of @showdog525 says "Doing what I want to do, when I want."
Alina of @alina_pineda says "Because I can choose whatever I want without anyone else deciding for me."
Flavia of @_flaviaro says "I started solo traveling because I want to do my own thing. I really love my family and friends, but my experience was always the same: I had to convince them to go travel, and it was really exhausting. I don't want to wait on people anymore. If they want to join me it's fine, and if not, it's fine too."
Because "I don't want to wait on people anymore."
FOR THE OPPORTUNITIES.
Rosy of @rosywainaina says "You meet people in a way that you don't when you travel with someone."
Deepa of @soloindianfemaletraveller says "Because you only live once!"
FOR SELF CARE AND SELF DISCOVERY.
@thelonetravelgirl says: "It gives my mind the quietness and peace to truly consider where my thoughts go when I'm alone in an unfamiliar place. It's easier to ask myself questions like: "What do I want from my life? What makes me happy?" "
Masuma of @masuma_somji says "Traveling solo helps me find myself, my interests, my energy, and my freedom!"
Mei of @feli.sees.the.world says "To discover the real me."
Hillary of @the.roaming.eye says "My reasons have expanded to be more about my self care and peace of mind. I love the feeling of planning a trip, exploring new places and meeting new people. I look at it as the ultimate challenge to navigate on my own and enjoy every step along the way. Since I've begun solo traveling, my mental wellbeing has improved drastically!"
Ashley of @ohdarlingletsseetheworld says "To give me my me time!! It's so nice doing something that is just for YOU!"
Because "It's easier to ask myself questions like: "What do I want from my life? What makes me happy?" "
AND OF COURSE, FOR THE CONFIDENCE!
Thato of @theethator says "To remind myself that I'm a badass who's capable of anything!"
Happy motivating and happy travels,
